The Inner Cartography of Dance - with Shona Innes & Jonathan Sinatra
This workshop will explore your body’s innate intelligence through movement, experiential anatomy and release dance practices. A significant focus will be spinal balance & flexibility, stabilising and mobilising body parts, and engaging the body’s centre of gravity through movement.
Experiential Anatomy - learning becomes a rich, multidimensional event when you directly experience physical structures and systems in your own body. Experiential anatomy is a way of learning that involves your whole being on all levels.
Release Technique - focuses on the principles of ‘ease of movement’ and ‘fluidity’. Dancers learn to minimise tension in the body to create freedom of movement. The release of body weight into the floor and the use of breath to initiate movement is part of the learning process. The style focuses on the use of sensation, gravity and momentum to create dynamic movement.
Shona Innes is an Alexander Technique, Experiential Anatomy and Todd Alignment, practitioner and dancer.
Jonathan Sinatra has over 25 years of professional experience in dance making and facilitating. He has worked with Russell Dumas’ Dance Exchange since 2001and many other professional artists.
